One Year Later, Did These PS3 and PSP Promises Come True?
Welcome to Kotaku
This content is limited.
A year later they made these promises come true PS3 and PSP?
PlayStation promise the people a lot. They had a year ago. Now the promises and plans are to be monitored by me, to see which elements of their hype E3 2009 Sony has come true, and that not.
Sony is the third victim this week to present to the promise of Microsoft E3 2009 Kotaku control of celebrations and Nintendo's E3 2009th Kotaku has all three companies, including Sony, the same treatment in the past year given. Today, fresh from a re-marathon experience Sony E3 briefing 2nd June 2009, can be shown that, well, not better than Sony's offering promises or is glued to the floor.
Several themes emerged:
1) These include Sony, plan and promise a lot of things go, the goal, of course. Too ambitious, as we shall see.
2) Nothing beats the accuracy of a live demo of the game for something to be true to prove the hype show. Sony had played many games played live on stage at E3 last year, and all who have been released, at least as shown.
3) It is the year of the Sony PlayStation on the Earth every year, apparently.
Sony, your E3 2009 promises to be examined today - in a comprehensive manner.
Background: The Sony Press Conference was held second June in Los Angeles. This display lasted an hour and 57 minutes.
"The year 2009 will be better"
U.S. boss Jack Tretton said PlayStation '09 the best year for the PlayStation is.
Conclusion: I'm going to say anything. Come on, Jack, '09 was not as good as GTA III, Metal Gear Solid 2, Final Fantasy X and Ico this year was the year 2001, is not it?
... and for this
Tretton pitted some big games for the PS3 planned: Modern Warfare 2, Final Fantasy XIII, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Batman: Arkham Asylum, heavy rain, "Rock Band Beatles" (Oops!) And more. "In 2009 if you want the best possible gaming experience to have, you need a PlayStation."
Conclusion: Certainly! These games are all coming to PS3. Easy call there. But I want to stress that came a couple of these games are not out until 2010?
Remember the PS2?
We were told that there are 100 new PS2 titles. Tretton said that the PS2 was launched in Brazil, Uruguay and Paraguay in the summer of 2009.
Conclusion: Hmm. Not sure. Forgive me if I have to skip this test. The PS2 in Brazil last November. I'm not sure, Paraguay and Uruguay, but that's my fault, not Sony.
Depending on your definition of "35"
Tretton said inFamous was one of more than 35 games in 2009 on the PS3 platform, which would be exclusively released.
Verdict: Misleading there were 35 games exclusive PS3 game in stores in 2009. About two-thirds of the total were Tretton PlayStation Network downloadable games do not necessarily bad, but not the kind of game platform owners usually proud to count the number of their exclusives.
Purely accidental derailment
After the creation of an impressive live demo of Uncharted 2, the other does not promise that the game would have been made beautiful, Tretton create a live demo in May after the demo, Tretton said it was trying to see his debut in May do on the PS3 this fall.
Conclusion: Nuts. He should have said "January". Then he would not have to dock points. But, yes, it was cold Uncharted 2 of the act.
The PSP is still worth playing, the promise
On the PSP, Tretton Dissidia Final Fantasy for 25 August dated and Assassin's Creed Blood Lines of the 10 November, and Hannah Montana-purple PSP bundled in July. Tretton said that the PSP would Petz, Loco Roco 2, Patapon 2 and Rock Band Unplugged, by the end of the year.
Conclusion: Right to FF and most of the rest, about a week before BC.
Go-Time
Kaz Hirai, president of Sony Computer Entertainment has revealed the worst kept secret of E3, the less space PSPGo assured that he would be us, not a replacement for the UMD or PSP-3000. He said the group would be 16 GB of internal flash have memory and a built-in Wi-Fi.
Conclusion: The money! More than he wanted to be, I think.
Stuff that is easy to forget
Hirai said that Sony would have improved tools for PSP owners could use to move the media from their computer to their PSP said a new program called Media Go And he, the fall-line application called SensMe can be used to to recognize his musical taste a PSP owner, and configure their music playback on their mood or other preferences. He said that the PSP development tool-kits would fall to 80% of the costs to develop more sustainable.
So yes, did this stuff. SensMe was first October. You use it?
At least one way to download PSP games, and often legally
Hirai: "All PSP games to go before you, will be distributed digitally via the PlayStation Store, through the sale of UMD, as well."
Conclusion: Not all PSP games in time PSPGo was released simultaneously on UMD and published in digital form. LittleBigPlanet PSP, for example, to delayed one week. But Sony has with the strategy of digital output and the third was to be respected along. It can be a PSP UMD game or two, as in the Shadow of Memories by Konami in January, released digitally in the U.S., but it seems that most of the new UMD games will receive a digital version of the end of last year will have.
Cheaper than a ... PS3
The first is to PSPGo October dated and priced at $ 249 and 249 € and ¥ 26,800 in Japan in November.
Conclusion: Correct. But not a price that people loved.
Gran Turismo PSP ... Lives!
Kazunori Yamauchi has the stage to announce Gran Turismo PSP, Sony portable Duke Nukem Forver, hyping a game so many years in the making and. Yamauchi described GT PSP Edition on a large scale, is running at 60 frames per second with 800 cars and 35 tracks. "This is not a shrinking sub-set of the series." Users would be able to drive their cars each trade. The game has to first October dates.
Conclusion: Wow. We only have this one complete true / thumbs up / give yes for real. This game came out really! I did not expect. It is published on 1 to start in October.
In fact, this is the "next big version of" Metal Gear Solid series
Hideo Kojima has to give the stage a day after the announcement of Metal Gear Solid Rising at the press conference for the Xbox 360 (in English) to know (in Japanese) Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker. The game is for the Sony PSP. "The setting is only 10 years after Metal Gear Solid 3, 1970," Kojima said through a translator. "I can say this is a true sequel to Metal Gear franchise." He added that it would have been deep in the game have to do, writing the script and production. The team would not participate in this MGS4. "It is a spin-off is not a part of history." Dated 2010th
Conclusion: To conclude this promise of peace Walker Art Kojima invalid part on his promise from the previous day Microsoft event. Oh well. The game is taken at the 2010 Release Date.
Resident Evil PSP (huh?) And much more
Tretton said it would be a new Resident Evil for the PSP in 2010. He also said, Little Big Planet, SOCOM Fireteam Bravo 3, Monster Hunter Freedom Unite, MotorStorm Arctic Edge, Hannah Montana and Harry Potter all in the holiday season of '09 were. A coil Hype '09 PSP for games showed more games, including a new Jak and Daxter, a new Soul Calibur, the new Rock Band and Madden, Invizimals, Fat Princess and Echo shift.
Conclusion: mixed. Some of them come out as planned at the end of '09. SOCOM slipped in February 2010. Monster Hunter was actually in June 2009 in the United States Invizimals was released in Europe in 2009, is still not the United States and Fat Princess Echo Shift achieved slipped to 2010. Weird. But what is that 2010 Resident Evil? Have not heard anything since.
PSOne on Comeback Trail
Tretton promised that more than 50 games will be added for the PlayStation 1 to save the download PlayStation in 2009.
Conclusion: Although only slightly, according to Wikipedia.
Everything but COP: The Recruit ...
A coil for the next hype PS3 games, including Uncharted 2, Madden, Final Fantasy XIII, Batman: Arkham Asylum, Brutal Legend, White Knight Chronicles, Ghost Busters: The game, Ninja Gaiden, Wet, Mafia 2, Buzz Saw, Ice Age king of Fighters, Overlord 2, Red Faction: Guerilla, Tiger Woods, Dark Void, Guitar Hero: Van Halen, heavy rain, Battlefield: 1943, Hustle Kings PixelJunk Shooter Trash Panic, Critter Crunch, Katamari Damacy, Fat Princess EyePet, SingStar Queen, DC Universe Online, Little Big Planet, the saboteur, Bioshock 2, Ratchet & Clank Future: A Crack in Time, Fight Night Round 4, God of War III, and much more. Tretton name of a control Lost Planet 2 and said it would be shipping in early 2010.
Conclusion: Damn! They came from all ... or in the case of DCUO (Update: Mafia and 2) will be released on the PS3. In Lost Planet, I guess is May as "early" 2010th
If the Agency for your platform is not enough ...
Tretton said, and reiterated that Rockstar North, creators of Grand Theft Auto and Manhunt have a game called Agent released exclusively on PS3.
Conclusion: As far as I know, is yet to come.
Flight of the Assassin
Patrice Desilets of Ubisoft said one live games through a part of Assassin's Creed II, he promised that the new game should provide players with more "diversity of experience" than the original. Showed a mission involving killing dive for Ezio flying machine of Leonardo Da Vinci's connected. Desilets has promised more than 30 weapons in the final game, and that you are one with unlockable game Assassins Creed PSP synchronization of the PS3. He said that would be the PSP and PS3 games in time for the holidays.
Conclusion: A well informed about the timing issue, the numbers of weapons and variety of gameplay. I just hope that people do not expect a lot of missions to fly the machine. The man said that "the diversity of experiences, people!
ad continuation surprising story of E3 (Star)
After Final Fantasy XIII will be released for the PS3 in the spring of 2010, Tretton cued a trailer for the game. And then ... began about Final Fantasy XIV He explained that "PlayStation 3 is the only console you can Final Fantasy XIV, when to play it in 2010 brought into being."
Conclusion: Maybe the surprise I have ever seen in a sophisticated E3 and start an incredible slap in the face of the "we FFXIII, including" People of the Xbox division of Microsoft. Then, the trailer is played. Then the logo. And then flashes the word "online" the logo is included. So it's not a piece like a narcotic. It's like Final Fantasy XI, we all have since been made, a great game, but not a real big Final Fantasy. Oh, and have come to the PC, Tretton does not exactly wrong. This promise seems true, but perhaps not as impressive as first thought. But what a moment! (Also: FFXIII winding in early March 2010 Tretton was pleasantly wrong to say that the game would not be out until spring.)
It ends in a game in the spring, remember?
I went on the new PlayStation Motion Controller (now known as the move to speak), with Sony's Jack Tretton and scientist Richard Marks, both to the past, the PlayStation 2 EyeToy Camera declared the first motion controller in the real sector. Patterns and a colleague, Anton Mikhailov was then the new movement rod-and-control camera set-up for the PS3 wave, with a few demos, including one that it seems as if the controller keeps Mikhailov had been transformed into Cartoon a tennis racket or swing a bat. Trade Marks boasted that they were, 01.01 and 3D motion tracking real point, which could be expected from any position. He said the controller would play well for both casual games and "". They showed demos of applications for construction and design programs, a first-person shooter and strategy game in real time. Controller, presented Marks, "The final look is going to change ... This is a prototype engineering.
After all this, Tretton said that the PlayStation Motion Controller was started in spring 2010.
Conclusion: With the live demo of the controllers were extremely precise. I felt exactly that when I tried to move in earlier this year. The promise of technology is increasing so far. But in 2010 came in the spring turned out to be fantasy. Move is not yet out.
new clothes for Sackboy
Tretton hyped the upcoming release of "LittleBigPlanet" game for the PSP and the new Sackboy costumes for the PlayStation 3 on Pirates of the Caribbean, Cinderella, and The Incredibles are based, beginning start in the fall.
Conclusion: The Pirates and packaging Incredibles came out. The stuff is not Cinderella.
Track Mania
ModNation Racers was revealed, and a track was done live on stage, with the smooth track surface creation of the game. The developers promised a 2010 in the cinemas.
Rating: good-looking. The track work-Game Maker would be shown when the game ships in 2010.
A look into the distant future
Tretton was a trailer for The Last Guardian, the last game of a trilogy that begins with Ico and Shadow of the Colossus. Then he showed us a teaser for Gran Turismo 5 Finally, we have Was a demo of what were said Tretton, "the first few minutes" of God III. The Director of the game, "said Stig Asmussen, that God of War III in March will be published in 2010.
Conclusion: There is no reason to believe that these games are not to PS3, although the demo God of War III actually turn on its head and as action-packed first minutes of the PS3 debut of Kratos' had to be sold. The demo was taken over by the leadership to the fight with Helios, not Titanic opening sequence of the game. Perhaps they were meant Tretton the first few minutes we have not seen the first few minutes of the game. That explains everything. Stig nailed the problem.
Final Judgement: This was a bold display of Sony's most complete and, apart from Natal, promises much more ambitious than the Microsoft and Nintendo's E3 2009 event. Unfortunately, it was also the press conference with more trains, missing data and moving Mag release and a lot of games for the PSP. Strangely, the hype for PSPGo bound was spot on. To a great cause of the motion controller and get so wrong this time frame, and a little "smoke and mirrors some of the hype here (35 exclusive PS3?), Sony Gets a C.
(Please note also our promise to Microsoft Xbox hype for 2009 and 2009, Nintendo Wii and DS control hype.)
