Firstly, I really simplifies even two of the new PS3 console. So, unlike some of the one and two star reviewers there, I can speak from experience. I also have an Xbox 360 and Wii, but my contribution is usually the difference between this model and my previous 60 GB PS3 model to start.
I had the original 60GB PS3 compatible since launch and loved. There were the focus in my basement home theater setup. Blu-ray looks spectacular on a screen of 119 inches. I was thinking for a long time, a PS3 Consolesfor been my second stay. Once the new Slim was announced, I have decided to sell my PS3 and to fund the money for the purchase of two new ones. I bought one from Amazon and another from a local brick and mortar.
I have observed three main uses for the PS3 games, Blu-ray, and videos on a NAS drive stored in my home network. Buy tracks for Rock Band, download demos of new games, and buy the occasional or LBP costume pack, but otherwise I'm not really a player online.
In any case, the new Slim is an excellent, very good system. The comparison to my previous PS3:
Pros:
It is much smaller. Images not really do justice.
It works just so calm, if not more. The only increase in the noise seems to come from the hard drive. And "to accept louder than my old system or eject a disc
Also runs cooler. I never had problems with overheating my old PS3 Consolesbut this hot air is placed only after a few hours of play is sitting in a closet.
Better support for audio codecs. I run this on a 7.2-channel surround system so I like the sound better than I can get, and my receiver uses Slims updated audio output.
It seems to load game data faster. I'm Batman: Arkham Asylum at the beginning of the week. The game loader a first 1.8 gigs (I do) from data on your drive. After purchasing my first Slim, I had the data to the new system, upload and lasted only about two thirds of the time. It is surprising, since the same disk speed, but I do time and certainly less time.
I like the matte finish better. No fingerprints or stains do not reflect light.
The physical buttons are large. You can just click on the Power button to turn off the system, instead of keeping touch with until it beeps.
CONS:
Only two USB ports. I know that most PS3 consoles were the only two, but I had four, and I love Rock Band. Fortunately, I had a 4 port hub sitting around unused.
No IR receiver. This was actually a pretty big disappointment for me. I run my theater full set with a Harmony One. Projector, receiver, and my light. I finally broke down and spent the exta $ 55 + the Logitech Harmony adapter, but I prefer to have the ability in the price of the system.
After a back up, reload, re-download all. I have upgraded my old system to a 160 GB hard drive, and I hoped I could just drag and beat the new system. Unfortunately, this was not the case. I had to manually save my game files (not save all you can copy. I kept all my progress of Batman, for example, but lost all my progress in Rock Band 2 ". Ll also find or rent a copy of Rock Band 1 install up all songs from the new game CD).
I'm back and other support from the operating system, but I do not care, or use one of these anyway. In addition, the sytem is as big as ever, and I love the 3.0 software and animated backgrounds. Furthermore, only one note: If you move from one PS3 to two, as I do, your purchased games and add-ons are well on multiple systems. My wife and I play Monsters Pixlejunk and now we can choose to hang out and play in the living room where you can actually keep track of time or disappear for hours in the cave.
