I have update an old Xbox 360 20 GB hard drive (HD) and the model you have purchased this kit to disk size. This is a great value IMHO.
Although I need the headset or ethernet cable will be used by others in my family. The bonus is the three-month Xbox Live Gold membership card in this kit (value $ 19.99).
Unfortunately, the kit is not needed with the cable and software CD are to data from my existing HD 20 GB to 60 GB copy new HD.
If you have an Xbox 360 with 20GB HD, Microsoft wants to buy the upgrade to 120GB HD, which comes with a transfer cable. For me it was not worth the extra $ 50 for the HD 120 GB (you can find here at Amazon for $ 134.99). This kit is the right price for me and includes space enough for my needs. If you have an arcade version of 360, you can create a 20 GB HD from MS for less money. I recommend this because, you see how I did it, if you have many arcade titles, download, or just want more than a game to install on your hard disk, you need more than 20 GB IMHO. And you'll want an Xbox Live Gold account, at least try it for more than 30 days you get when you first console. Again, in my humble opinion.
Fortunately, you can use this "Xbox 360 Data Migration Kit" in one of two ways;
1) Find one on eBay or Craigslist. Search for "Xbox 360 Data Migration Kit" and you will find many for sale. Expect to pay $ 20 - $ 40. You can for less, but it seems a number of people who have the market on these things (I of pure profit for the holidays guessing corner like). I paid $ 20 for my found on Craigslist. I will sell it on Ebay, at least what I paid for it (there were 12 sold on eBay this weekend alone with at least 26 other bidding!).
2) for free download from Microsoft! As a prior user, you can call and ask, MS a, you will send one. Or you can go on Xbox dot com, said the search for data migration kit xbox as above, click on "How to" link Xbox 360 Data Migration Kit, click a few links to get the last page, so lets get Amazon I do not understand the real situation in this review ...
Go down to "Related Links" and click on "Getting your free link transfer cable. Fill out the form and asks," new console serial number, write "" to order. "Mail and wait a couple of weeks. (Update , 11/21/2008 I sent the form I received the kit and 12/11/2008).

I am absolutely delighted with my purchase Starter Kit 60GB. I copied files from my old HD (it took about an hour - was full!) Connect the new drive in place of the old one and everything works great.
If you have an Xbox Live Gold account again have to test this is a good possibility, "is drive" the service during the execution of the 360 needed an update disk.
