Hulu Plus PS3 Review: Everything we hoped for ... however, free
Hulu Plus had a lot of attention in its IPAD / iPhone incarnations. But it's also smooth, glossy average more experience I ever had in my PS3. And to some extent, really the Holy Grail: Hulu on television.
We go back a second. The PS3 is the Blu-ray player, I recommend it to anyone. But the BD was never intended to be navigated with a Dual Shock. Besides the obvious improvement of the quality that Blu-ray experience of a movie on the PS3, the visible armed with the odd pop-up menu whether I have the right buttons you press on the title screen, fast forward to accidentally brings 100x Speed when my cat knocked the controller has never been so wonderful. There is a disconnect between me and the media if I have to interact with the machine. Resolution to the side and watched a BD on the PS3 is not more fun than watching a DVD on a PS2.
I also downloaded a lot 'from PS Store. If I may, the fact that the show will cost $ 2/pop (HD and overcome), I must say, I prefer to watch Blu-ray method. No annoying menus are only needed to watch my show. And Sony Download SD quality is the quality of my HD DirecTV box. But the PS Store is ... just OK. The interface is often slow as the battle for the images to spread. I have the funds to buy my wallet to the movie you download, so you look to buy it. There are just all these unnecessary steps.
What about Netflix. Look, gets the job done. But I have an Xbox 360 It works best on Xbox. So, what should I use?
In terms of pure usability Hulu Plus is better than any of these options.
Once the application downloaded, sync your account with your PC is literally instantaneous. What do you mean by a filling, but easy to navigate menus welcomed. Browse to the D-Pad. Check out what you like with ... regardless of the form of a button it is. You know the button. E "button makes that things happen on the PS3 controller.
And what is particularly compelling on the menu, you will not sit here and wait around for loading. The graphics and text for all events are just there, as should be.
(The only quibble I have is that loads the text chopped my television set, a problem that is common in HTPC seems to get. In addition, there are a lot of glare on my TV in these pictures. But it's not Nobody's Fault But DOM .. and maybe Panasonic.)
Therefore, the process of how Hulu in a browser. Click on highlighted one of their shows. Pan across episodes. Subscribe. Rate. Etc.. I have no function (I wanted) Hulu missing on the PS3, which I noticed long made for the web interface. And choose as a bonus if you to see the menu while watching a show, the video will be shrunk into a corner of the screen ... a miracle for those of us used to Netflix.
As for watching movies, the experience, again comparable to the PC. Click on everything you want, then prepares a list of 30 seconds. Personally, I'm afraid to rule the human race, as we have in the days of the cable, we pay a monthly service fee, which also unskippable ads. But to avoid this debate, I will complain that the ads must be balanced with their respective audio content. While the modern family, a show that tends to find quieter than most, I have a display that through my speakers blared at a level more than unpleasant. Sony, and Hulu, recalled that the neighbors and I have a weakness for my hearing. Solve this problem is very small.
As for the video quality of the actual content ... is decent, considering that we are talking about streaming media, but objectively is mediocre. You can actually go 4.3 bitrate settings depending on the particular media content, a handy feature that you can get the best signal every time. Enjoy the HD 3.4 Mbps (max), I thought the picture was a bit 'worse than my DirecTV HD ... This is so disgusting in itself that I do not believe, despite the HD "HD moniker.
Do not get me wrong, the quality is very watchable on my plasma. But when we speak of a commercial air service with a monthly fee, the days of "I'm happy just to the funny SNL clip where I want to see!" are over. I would like to see a higher bit rate option, literally.
If you are interested in Hulu Plus, you have to pay $ 10 per month for the service, the more you pay 18 € (three months) for $ 50 (for one) PlayStation Pro at the service access on the PS3, at least for now. After the preview period is over, all the PS3 users will be able, without paying for PlayStation subscribe to Plus
Fortunately, what you pay for is an authentic experience Hulu on TV, media, and many brilliant app for the PS3 (or really to get any console) to.
And "Hulu on TV
Super polished menu
Excellent speed, even on my DSL
The quality is not your HDTV justice
Requires a subscription to the PlayStation Pro Now
Update: As many commentators have confirmed shows, many have left out of the library available to PS3
