How can i get my data from my old xbox 360 to the new xbox 360 kinect ?

I might be getting a Xbox 360 with kinect and i'm just wondering are you still able to play other games on it like halo 3 etc and all the other games for the past 360 systems? I'm new to Xbox 360 should i get this one with the kinect or ...
