Netflix comes to Wii
Netflix comes to Wii for parents, is a mixed blessing ...
We finally have some time with the Wii version of Netflix streaming. Despite the fact that I have is four devices in my house, which is capable of streaming Netflix content, the Wii version interesting for several reasons. First, how many families, our Wii is not connected to our main TV. The Wii does not support HD and the advantage of being on our main setup, so it is in the small theater we set at home in the nursery. This meant that if Netflix has worked without problems, my daughter could be in an episode of iCarly, or whatever, but we saw each other on the big screen. We still have a satellite receiver on the set, because it is closely monitoring what our children have to consider the opportunity. This brings me to my second reason to anticipate the Wii version. Since the Wii is a console for families, in the hope that the parental control software Netflix will be more flexible and utilitarian as they are competing for the console. Unfortunately, the user interface, controls, and work very well in the streaming version Wii Wii Netflix no additional parental control features on this built into the console. In general, may see this release is a success, but there are some improvements I would be in subsequent versions.
If you've used Netflix streaming to Xbox and PS3, you will notice that the Wii versiion more like the PS3 software. The most obvious similarity is the need for software off the hard drive every time to when you load it. This is clumsy and half of the children (or adults) need to keep pace with a disc and scraping. Speculation (although nothing official has been released) is that the disk has signed an exclusive contract with a way to Microsoft when Netflix first appearance on the Xbox 360 Whatever the reason is the disk-based method clumsy and I would love a solution as quickly as possible to see.
Once the software is installed, there is little difference in service. The interface is similar to the PS3. The Wii Mote is good for the category in the drop-down menu selection and displays scrolling through the available movies and television. Once a program is activated, it loads a bit "faster than other versions, perhaps because it is a test for the quality of the connection, use the other to the quality of the image scale. The highest quality requires about here is the equivalent of Mid -range quality for PS3, PC, Xbox and streams. I saw a number of programs and the quality was only significantly worse movie on Starz brand. Otherwise, the picture quality seemed very similar to standard-definition cable TV. I can not really say that I miss the HD because the TV that we have the Wii on an old CRT standard definition. I can not imagine, of course, too many people own HD set still only on the Wii as an option to stream Netflix. if you are HD and an Xbox, PS3 or Blu-ray support, they are a better solution. Otherwise, the Wii a solid job of providing content.
(If you have children or not, no matter what they see, you can skip the next section)
Before I saw a single program, I played around with the parental control. I had hoped, flexible Parental Controls in the program itself Netflix built. Unfortunately there is no. Instead, only parents can activate the network parental control over the Wii. Each block access to the network, knows that it is a feature all or nothing. When on, it must enter a password before the program start to Netflix will be entered. Once the password is entered, can not the parents of one level of the ratings for movies that can be observed. This seems like a huge oversight. I would have liked to see on Xbox 360 and PS3 versions, but I actually planned for the Wii, a system that provides much of its installed base in children's bedrooms and playrooms. So be warned, if you can your child can watch Angelina Ballerina, go look at their Spartacus: Blood and Sand, provided that the boy no taste in TV shows has all kinds.
Overall, Netflix streaming on the Wii is a product of a warm welcome. I have a year old when he was on the sofa together and my daughter is just Angelina Ballerina toys in the room, but far enough not to wake the baby. The fact that so many Wiis to see the installation of distance from the main entertainment center: This press families have more flexibility over their entertainment options. This works well and is easy to navigate is the best version yet. Only the lack of parental control prevents me from fully satisfied with the output. So, Netflix and Nintendo, if you could go with this, I am sure that many parents would welcome it.
I leave at this point and wait for the snarky comments about how Nintendo is not responsible or Netflix to monitor my children. As always, we assume that these comments are from Nintendo Fanboy next 15 years without their children.
